A Samsung ONYX LED movie screen, the first of its kind in South China, was recently applied at the MixC Cinema, 3rd Floor, Central Tower, MixC, CITY Crossing, No.1881, South Baoan Road, Luohu District, Shenzhen, allowing the city to join in the ranks of those who had already had a 4K cinema, such as Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, and Zhengzhou, which would offer local audience brand new viewing experience.
As the leader in display technology and the pioneer in cinema LED applications, Samsung has replaced the traditional screen with the new-generation LED movie screen, and made transformations across the spectrum from colour to image quality and 3D visual effect and from audio effects to cinema functions, bringing the LED visual effects onto the big screen.
Traditional film screening has featured projection. And although technological advances have elevated film image quality, some particular problems still exist, mainly reflected in much interference from ambient light, screening in total darkness, less brightness or uniformity (usually 70%-80% at most), which are exactly what a LED cinema screen can offer. At present, the LED cinema screen uses the active lighting technology, producing a brightness 10 times greater than that of common screens, which not only addresses the problem of having to view in total darkness but effectively restrains the interference from stray light with its active lighting and the special membrane on the surface of modules. As the experience it brings is superior to what traditional projection-based screening offers, many cinema owners attempted to make the use of this new technology..
The Samsung LED cinema screen introduces the industry-leading High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology, which not only avoids such problems as bad image uniformity and image distortion but displays the colour of a real environment. Be it the deep darkness or pure whiteness, it can offer a clear demonstration in front of audience with stark contrast, in conjunction with a peak brightness (146FL) 10 times greater than what a standard film projector can possibly offer, giving audience a much real experience. Apart from that, its 4K super-definition images can demonstrate each and every detail.
The MixC Cinema in Shenzhen applied the LED cinema screen to increase its high-end image and take a dominant position in the fierce competition. With 4K and a width of up to 10 meters, the screen has an active 3D system and HDR display technology, which can perfectly display film images and bring superb photochromic effects. Its 3D element, in particular, addresses the biggest problem of low brightness of traditional projection-based 3D screening.
It’s learned that the LED cinema screen upgrading project of the MixC Cinema in Shenzhen was delivered with the concerted efforts of Advanced Communication Equipment (International) Company Ltd. (ACE) and Zhuhai China Film Cinema Services Co., Ltd (Zhuhai China Film). In their communication with the owner in terms of the development of early-stage proposal and types of equipment, the two companies introduced the advantages and features of a LED cinema screen, winning the understanding and recognition.
In the construction stage, ACE’s technicians developed detailed construction plans, strictly checked the quality of every procedure, especially the main loudspeaker and surround loudspeaker of the screen, and made repeated tunings and adjustments, to bring out the best of the audio technology. Ultimately, they successfully completed the testing and sign-off of each and every indicator. The bonus features and experiential screening have won wide acclaim of those on site.
Samsung Onyx LED cinema screen has been put into use in over 32 cinemas across 16 countries, of which China has the largest number of installed Onyx LED cinema screen. And the number will only increase in the future.
When asked about the development of the LED cinema screen going forward, ACE staff believed there would be good prospects for it. At present, many film investors in China have voiced their intention to build LED cinemas in other cities. Despite the difference existing between investment and relatively traditional operation, it’s inevitable to see more of them, in a market where the competition will only get more intense, differentiation, high quality, and individualism will prevail, cinemas look to take a high-end line, and the audience will get more picky.
