Located to the west of the Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of the People, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (the NCPA), well known as the Theater of the People, finished its construction and opened to the public in 2007, which is not only an important cultural facility but a unique tourist attraction.
The central architecture of the NCPA is a hemi-ellipsoidal shell made of steel structures. Each time the night falls, the splendor and magnificence of the theater can be seen.
A MA one-generation MA Ultralight console was used as the shell’s projection lamp console.
After more than ten years, a comprehensive upgrading of its shell brightening system allowed the previous high-power gas discharge projection lamp to be replaced with high-power LED projection lamp, which not only saved energy but greatly raised the brightness of the lamp, and hence the illumination of the shell.
The control system has been upgraded to MA second-generation Command WING. It can be connected with the onPC software and 4 control cabinets on the ground via optical network, and can be transmitted to new high-power LED projection lamp after network decoding. The MA system has large capacity, great stability, high synchronization, and simple operation, so it can be perfectly applied to the lighting control of such architectures. Also, Agenda, a unique function of the console, can support multiple modes.
Three modes:
Working Day Mode: monochrome, giving people a sense of quietness and elegance without disturbance;
Weekend Mode: a combination of sky blue, white, and rose red, giving people a sense of flexibility, vividness and vigour;
Major Event Mode: circulation of 7 colours that include Chinese red, rose red, golden, white, sky blue, peacock blue and purple, giving people a sense of grandeur and fervency.
Following the comprehensive upgrading and renovation of the shell’s brightening system, twinkling mushroom lamps well arranged on the surface of the shell are visible in nighttime, just like the stars sparkling in the remote night sky, adding an implicit and unique element of appeal and aesthetics to the NCPA.
