Line arrays are acoustical sources placed closely together in a straight line. The drivers are placed in enclosures which are configured vertically. An advantage of a line array is that the sound pressure level drops at about 3 dB per distance doubling. Traditional speaker level drops at 6 dB per distance doubling. The JBL VRX900 Series line array speakers are composed of multiple high frequency compression drivers and provide a waveguide on a continuous arc enabling them to work together acoustically as if they were a single driver, while dramatically increasing the power handling and high frequency acoustic output when compared to a single driver system. Besides, additional enclosures can be added creating an uninterrupted, continuous arc with all of the drivers working together seamlessly as if they were one driver on a long waveguide, providing unprecedented stunning and clear high-frequency sound quality regardless of the configuration.
The VRX900 Series has many models, which can be confusing to you. So how large of a crowd does such a system cover? How far does it throw? How loud does it get? And what kind of places is it applicable to?
All examples provide at least 105 dB SPL, which is a common target for general music, and provide a very even (within 6 dB) coverage for a given audience area per number of speakers. So let’s take a look at some of the application examples of the JBL VRX928LA.
2 x VRX928LA + 1 x VRX915S System
System Specification:
• 1x VRX928LA Per Side
• Coverage Per System: 100° x 15° (Horizontal x Vertical)
• SPL : 126dB (1 Watt / 1 meter)
• 1x CROWN XTi 4002A power amplifier to drive 2x VRX928LA
• Application Height: 2.3 m via a tripod
• ACS set to -3 dB position
• For application with additional low-frequency demand and in outdoors application, add one VRX915S Subwoofer to the system for sufficient LF coverage.
Tip: To achieve the best performance for the VRX915S subwoofer, add an EQ filter: Bell, 45 Hz, + 2.5 dB, Q: 2.5 and use an 80 Hz crossover point.

SPL: 105-110dB, with a maximum throwing distance of 12 metres, applicable to meeting rooms, small multi-function halls, private clubs, or other places of 150㎡that can accommodate around 100 people
System Specification:
• 2 x VRX928LA Per Side
• Coverage per system: 100° x 30° (Horizontal x Vertical)
• SPL : 130 dB (1 Watt /1 meter )
• 2x CROWN XTi 4002A power amplifiers to drive 4x VRX928LA
• Application Height: 2.4 m via pole mount on top of VRX915S Subwoofer
• ACS set to +3 dB for top speaker and -3 dB position for lower speaker.
• Two VRX915S can be driven by one CROWN XTi4002A
• For application with additional low-frequency demand and in outdoors application, add one or two VRX915S Subwoofers to the system for sufficient LF coverage.

6 x VRX928LA + 2 x VRX915S System
SPL: 102-108dB, with a maximum throwing distance of 15 metres, applicable to multi-function rooms, lecture halls, banquet halls, or other places of 400㎡ that can accommodate around 300 people
System Specification:
• 3 x VRX928LA + 1 x VRX915S Per Side
• Coverage per system: 100° x 45° (Horizontal x Vertical)
• SPL : 131 dB (1 Watt /1 meter )
• 3 x CROWN XTi4002A power amplifiers to drive 6 x JBL VRX928LA
• Suspended at 5 m
Note: Three speakers wired in parallel and ACS set to +3 dB for top, 0 dB for middle, -3 dB position for lower speaker, and -6 dB (top to bottom) for continuous line array compensation.
For two VRX915S subwoofers (wired in parallel) per side, use one CROWN XTi4002A to drive. For more LF coverage, add two VRX918S Subwoofers to the system.

8 x VRX928 + 2 x VRX915S System
SPL: 99-105dB, with a maximum throwing distance of 24 metres, applicable to medium sized lecture halls, banquet halls, or other places of 600㎡ that can accommodate around 500 people
System Specification:
• 4 x VRX928LA + 1 x VRX915S Per Side
• Coverage per system: 100° x 60° (Horizontal x Vertical)
• SPL : 132 dB (1 Watt /1 meter )
• 2 x CROWN XTi6002A to drive 8 x JBL VRX928LA
• Suspended at 7 m
Note: In order to reach an even coverage, continuous array shading of +3 dB, 0 dB, -3 and -6 dB (top to bottom) was in place. This continuous shading can be achieved by using one amplifier channel for the two top speakers and one channel for the two bottom speakers and attenuating the lower speaker pair by 6 dB while setting the actual lower speakers ACS switches to +3 dB and 0 dB.
For applications with more low-frequency demand and in outdoor applications, add one VRX918S Subwoofer to each array for sufficient LF coverage. For two VRX915S subwoofers per side, use one CROWN XTi4002A power amplifier to drive, or one CROWN XTi6002A to drive two VRX918S.
