The 2019 TEA Summit & THEA Awards Gala was held at the Disneyland Hotel, Anaheim, Los Angeles, U.S. on April 11th to 13th, 2019, where elites in the themed entertainment industry from across the world participated.
About TEA
The TEA was founded in 1991 as a non-profit global alliance, headquartered in California, U.S., which boasts 1600 member organizations combined to have approximately 15,000 creative specialists across 42 countries, ranging from architects to designers, technical experts to overall designers, landscape producers to artists, and builders to feasibility analysts, with projects delivered all over the world. It has over 7,000 industry experts across the globe, whose strictness, impartiality, and professionalism have won universal acclaim. It’s started the review, selection and the THEA Awards presentation since 1994, aimed at “pursuing excellence and affirming its contributions”, awarding design projects, recreation facilities, exhibition and tourist attractions in the themed entertainment industry that have created outstanding and extraordinary experiences for tourists. Given its significant position in the industry and its grand awarding ceremony, the award has been universally recognized as the highest honor and the “Oscar” in the global themed entertainment industry. The laureates of the past THEA “Outstanding Prize” are all industry leaders standing out from hundreds of tourism enterprises around the world.
TEA Summit on April 11th 2019
On the first day of the Summit, April 11th, the topics were industrial concentration and opportunities for cooperation through business negotiations. TEA encouraged industry players to undertake life-long learning at each stage of their careers. With a focus on the “development of the themed entertainment industry”, new cases were presented at the Summit for attendees to exchange their ideas on business decision-making for successful projects and their experience.
Forum on sharing cases of how to win TEA awards, April 12th 2019
On April 12th, companies that won TEA awards and their design teams shared their project experience at the Summit. In particular, Vice President of Advanced Communication Equipment (International) Company Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ACE) Mr. Bingo Tso touched upon the designs and development of its audio, video, and lighting systems for The Legend of Camel Bells.
Awards Dinner, April 13th 2019
A ceremonious awards gala was held at the Magic Kingdom Banquet Hall of Disneyland Hotel on the evening of April 13th. The awards were classified into categories to include interactive education centers, museums, animation-themed experience clubs, multimedia imaging exhibition halls, creative theme parks, Universal Studios night tour video productions, large-scale performances, and stage plays, etc. ACE has a history of over 15 years in offering audio, video, and lighting solutions to theme parks and live-action performances, with great capabilities and extensive experience in designs and projects integration.
Introduction to the project - The Legend of Camel Bells
The Legend of Camel Bells, a live-action performance staged at the Huaxia Cultural Tourism resort in Xi’an affiliated to the Huaxia Cultural Tourism Group, won the 25th TEA THEA Annual “Outstanding Prize” at the gala, making it the only Chinese live-action performance that bore the palm! As one of the important participants in its project designs and development, ACE undertook the designs and integrations of its audio system as well as the integrations of its lighting and video systems.
The event presented 7 scenarios:
The Silk Road Began, Flashback,
Farewell my love – the Braveries started their journey,
Charged into the dangerous unknown zones,
Exotic Discovery of the East meeting the West
Meeting different cultures through the journey of Rain, Ice and Fire
Lovers Reunion - the return.
The Flourishing Era- The Glory moment.
Beginning with the Farewell in which many newlyweds were saddened to bid farewell to each other, it dealt with how the camel team marching westwards went through the volcano, avalanche, sandstorms, deserts and wild breasts attack, other natural difficulties as well as how they returned home with cargos fully loaded, and safely made their way back to the Tang Dynasty Capital Chang’an as their loved ones anticipated they returned. Exotic scenes were presented in the performance.
Up to 47 custom inventions were used in the event. Real mountains and 2000 tons of water are used to make the scenes look magnificent, coupled with the ups and downs of the story, offering the audience a wonderful, thrilling, beautiful and cheerful audio-visual experience. It’s not only another perfect description of the epic cultural exchanges on the Chinese-Western Silk Road, but a new channel for the world to understand Chinese cultures.
A mobile auditorium was creatively designed and built at the centre of the theater, with a capacity of 3,000 people, replacing the single stage performance model around the world with a rotating moving platform that could send the audience to the best positions to watch the event so that they could enjoy brand new audio-visual experience. 6 stages, a movable/ rotatable auditorium, super giant structure mechanical designs, and multichannel sound effects, combined to raise exceedingly high demands for sound designs. But ACE’s audio engineers delivered perfect solutions to present the “epic” sound.
As the TEA THEA Jury officially stated in regards to the features of The Legend of Camel Bells, it demonstrated the industry-leading visual imaginations and designs. The audience were amazed at its spectacular stage effects, magnificent props, beautiful backgrounds, numerous performers, a 15-metre-tall volcano and snow mountain, and three Buddha statues that were 18, 20, and 40 metres tall respectively, which were all supported by a LED screen of 4,000 m² that sent great visual shocks to the audience against the backdrop of perfect sound effects as they made seamless transition from one scene to another.
