In August 2018, in order to enrich the TV shows and attract young viewers, CCTV Music Channel launched the live broadcast competition program "Super Band". The program invited ten domestic outstanding bands, two bands as a group, to produce the five programs.
The times are advancing, new music is needed, and a new sound system is also needed. "Super Band" chose the JBL dual 12-inch line array VTX A12 array speaker. The A12 system is a tri-amp line array speaker consisting of three 2" high-frequency drivers, four 5.5" mi-frequency drivers, and two 12" low-frequency woofers. Technically, the A12 uses the next generation of JBL speaker technology. For example, uniquely designed HF drivers that combine the HF phasing-plug and waveguide into one part, which helps provide better tolerances and increased sensi- tivity above 6 kHz, while reducing distortion and overall weight.
The stage art design of "Super Band" is also innovative. The stage is divided into three areas, namely Stage A, Stage B and Host Stage. The three stages are equipped with completely independent sound reinforcement systems. The system configuration of Stage A is the same as Stage B with two fullrange line arrays each containing nine JBL VTX A12 line array elements, plus two arrays of four VTX S28 full-size arrayable subwoofers each. For the rock band's performance, the ultra-low energy cannot be ignored, so placed on the ground four sets of dual 18-inch ultra-low speaker JBL VT4880 are placed on the ground, as an ultra-low supplement. The equipment is provided by Beijing Aotian International Culture Media Co., Ltd., and ACE provides technical support and services.
The JBL A12 low frequency woofer features the new differential drive technology that integrates the voice coil and the magnet, which reduces diffraction and distortion at the horn edge, improves low-frequency sensitivity, and provides better linearity and sound-driven performance.
JBL's patented RBI (Radiation BoundaryIntegrator) Radiation Boundary Integrator combines the high frequency and mid-range so the transition across each band is uninterrupted, undistorted and seamless. A patented, tuned resonant-chamber is integrated into the waveguide itself, effectively eliminating throat-related cancellations due to back pressure from the mid-range section. The Redesigned Radiation Boundary Integrator® (RBI) for A12 reduced horn edge diffraction, improved LF sensitivity, make lower distortion, and 90-degree coverage down to 250 Hz.
Differential drive technology is JBL's unique technology used in design of all high-end woofer units. Unlike traditional low frequency unit, the differential driver uses dual voice coil and dual magnets.
Heat sinks are integrated into the driver's cast aluminum frame, and the neodymium magnets are placed inside the driver's dual voice coil assembly, completing the magnetic circuit without the heavy surrounding steel structure of conventional drivers. While dramatically reducing driver weight, all critical performance parameters are greatly enhanced: frequency response, power output and distortion. The resulting sound quality is extraordinarily transparent, even at very high SPL, while system weight and physical footprint can be reduced by as much as half when compared to conventional speaker systems.
There are many new technologies in the physical setting of the A12, such as the vertical hanging angle of the speaker. The minimum adjustable angle that the previous product can achieve is only 0.5°, while the minimum adjustable angle of the A12 can be accurate to 0.25°. It can be seen from the JBL line array calculation software LAC in the following picture that the angle set in the picture is the actual hanging angle in this performance.
In terms of touring performance, time is very precious, so the speaker not only needs to have good sound quality, the installation and setting should also be fast and easy. JBL VTX A12 has launched a brand-new hanging system, which is recognized as the fastest in the industry. Setting the hanging angle of the line array is an important step during the installation . The designer greatly simplifies this step when designing. In actual operation, only the pin needs to be pulled out and inserted into a hole at a suitable angle, which saves both time and effort.
Good speakers with good amplifiers. The amplifiers going with JBL line arrays are CROWN ITHD series, in the "Super Band" program, a total of 12 CROWN IT12000HD amplifiers and 36 CROWN IT9000HD were used. If you want to control such a large number of amplifiers at the same time, you need to use JBL's Performance Manager software, which can make matches based on the actual speaker type, amplifier type and their quantities, as well as add preset programs to the speakers, conduct sound field tuning, and monitor power amplifier status, etc..
Such a wonderful TV music program, please follow the CCTV music channel every Friday night at 20:00, follow "Super Band", follow JBL, and follow ACE.
