The Founding of An Army is the third installment of "The Founding Trilogy" series film, paying tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Army. The film tells about after the defeat of the first revolutionary civil war in 1927, the Communist Party of China, in order to save the revolution, held an armed uprising in Nanchang, Jiangxi province on August 1, and built a people’s army led by the Communist Party.
The Founding of An Army will be released in mainland China recently. The Premiere was held in Hall of New Tsinghua School of Tsinghua University on July 24, 2017. ACE was honored to undertake the work of building surround sound system for the Premiere.
At the beginning of system design, we encountered a lot of difficulties, including:
● Due to its architectural characteristics, the reverberation time in the Hall is long and continuous, not conforming to the requirements of cinema reverberation time;
● The configuration of sound reinforcement system is incompatible with the cinema system. Need to build a new DTS 5.1 Surround Sound System;
● Both the main channel and the surround sound should cover all viewers in the three-story seat areas;
● Seating plan in the Hall is equal proportion of theater seating, but it should be stadium seating design in cinema. The coverage of point sound source is not controllable;
● The operation of temporary 5.1 system cannot be stopped more than 3s.
In order to present the atmosphere of Premiere better, and interpret the Film's charm better, we deployed 8 JBL VTX V20 Line Array Speakers at left, middle and right position respectively as the main PA system, instead of the original point sound source - screen main speakers. Their coverage is wider to include all of audience at each corner of each floor. 6 JBL VTX S25 and 6 JBL VT4880 subwoofers were used to complete dynamic low-frequency rendering throughout the Hall.
For the first floor seats, we used 8 JBL SRX712 as surround speakers, and 4 for the second floor, 4 for the third floor, forming the entire surround sound system. All speakers work with Crown ITHD9000 Power Amplifier. Soundcraft Vi 1 Digital Mixer was used as the main PA mixer, playing a big role with its compact size! In addition, 2 DOLBY CP750 Digital Cinema Processors were used as main/standby to ensure pre DAC.
The 5.1 surround sound system for the Premiere brought everyone to immerse in the scene, as if going back to the period of heroic and tragic years...
