Fuzhou Radio was founded on July 1st, 1958. In the early years since its creation, it had only two programmes, operating wired broadcasting and wireless broadcasting , and a TX power of only 1 kw. With the reform and opening-up deepened, great progress has been made in Fuzhou Radio. Now, it has four FM broadcasting services that covers the news, music, traffic, and Fuzhou dialect.
It announced tenders for the project of transforming the main control, the live news and traffic rooms and backup live broadcast room in the MARCH 2016 and JULY 2017 . Studer OnAir Series 3000, 1500 mixing console + Studer Route3000 audio matrix, a plan offered by ACE (International) Co., Ltd. was adopted in the end to help build the main control and live broadcast studio’s audio network.
We designed the function of signal clustering sharing for its main control and the live news and traffic rooms, set up a Studer OnAir3000 console as an on air console for the live news and traffic rooms, a Studer OnAir1500 console for the backup live broadcast room, and Studer Route3000 audio matrix for the main control centre, used MADI optical fiber and AES digital audio to connect all the live broadcast rooms, and delivered audio signal sharing between the rooms and the main control matrix via Studer RELINK. Its main control, the news, traffic and back live broadcast studios have been put into operation.
「 Main Control Matrix 」
The main control used the STUDER Route3000 matrix to build an audio sharing system of the star type topographical structure for signal sharing between the live broadcast rooms. MADI optical fiber was used as the primary audio signal transmission between the main control and the rooms, with AES digital and analog signal transmission as the secondary.
7 MADI optical fiber cards were used in the main control matrix, with the aim of connecting with the room audio signals and the possibly modified signals from other rooms. The matrix can be combined with digital broadcast consoles to deliver an audio resources sharing network and share all sorts of audio cards.
The STUDER MADI card has main and aux optical fiber ports. If there is anything wrong with the main port optical fiber, the optical fiber signals would be automatically and seamlessly switched to the aux port without being compromised.
Below is the sketch map of the Main Control Audio System:
「 Live Broadcast studio Audio System 」
Studer OnAir 3000 18-fader digital consoles were used in the news and traffic channel live broadcast rooms as core equipment. Specifically designed for live broadcast systems, it has not only dual power redundancy, but also a split design that makes it occupy less space in live broadcast rooms and leave more space for the broadcast desk, so that the radio host wouldn't be blocked by the giant console and have easier operations.
It adopts the modular design and is comprised of a mainframe box and operation modules. Its audio I/O can be freely configured and expanded and its mainframe box is provided with primary and secondary dual power supply. It's highly stable and safe, perfectly suited to radio/TV studios, touring performances (AIO), and OB vans.
Features: its CPU, DSP, I/O card, power source, and fader module are all modular designs, and its mainframe box supports card hot plugging, which is convenient for examination, repair and maintenance.
It can deploy a maximum of 48 channel physical faders, all of which can be randomly set as inputs or outputs. It has PRG A, PRG B, and REC as 3 main output buses, and 4 AUX stereo buses, and can be upgraded to add 2 groups of 5.1 surround buses. Every fader channel has an OLED screen displaying channel parameters.
「 System Signal Channel 」
There are many kinds of audio signals in the live broadcast rooms, such as those from the host microphones, guest mics, telephone coupler and primary and secondary workstations, all of which first go into the console, then are mixed and finally transmitted to monitor and play systems.
Also, we added MADI cards to the OnAir3000 console in the news and traffic rooms to share the audio data and signals between the rooms and the main control matrix in a convenient and easy way.
In the news and traffic live broadcast rooms, the console deployed 3 fader modules (18 faders in total), 1 fader distribution module, 1 monitor/interphone module, and 1 coloured main touchscreen. In terms of audio I/O card, it had put in place 8 AES/EBU inputs and outputs, 4 Mic inputs, 16 Line inputs, 8 Line outputs, and 64 channel MADI card.

The project of transforming the main control, the live news and traffic rooms and backup live broadcast room of Fuzhou Radio and has been put into implementation. Upon finishing the project, we immediately conducted technical and operational training for the production and broadcast personnel including technicians and hosts, to ensure early delivery.
The project leader of Fuzhou Radio offered valuable advice to the upgrading and improvement of Studer products based on the problems users had in use both during and after the project implementation. Hereby, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Fuzhou Radio for its support and trust!
And we would also like to wish an even brighter future for Fuzhou Radio!
