The Zhejiang Satellite TV 2018 New Year's Eve Concert was held at Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre Stadium on December 30th, 2017. Many celebrities came onto the stage to deliver fantastic performances for the upcoming new year! ACE high-end wireless service team was very privileged to provide guaranteed wireless system services for the event.
The biggest challenge for this event was the complex electromagnetic environment on site. As was shown in the net field frequency scan chart, 8 digital TVs with 8MHz bandwidth within the range of 640 to 800 MHz greatly reduced the available wireless frequency spectrum. If a problem gets more tricky, there's always a solution to solve it. In this case, we used the Shure Axient Digital series wireless systems with L54 frequency band and 147MHz bandwidth ranging from 630 to 787 MHz, to make sure the users had the maximum space to choose yet still within the national standard and every frequency point was safe and reliable.
Net Field Frequency Scan Chart
20 channel AD handheld, 12 channel AD bodypack, and 8 channel PSM1000 were used in the event. There were 3 individual stages at the site, including the main stage, the auditorium host area, and the backstage host area, which were installed with 3 individual wireless systems that were conducted in unison when frequency planning was made, to ensure maximum transmission efficiency for each stage and no interference as a result of the same frequency points or intermodulation distortion.
Main Stage Area
Two UA870 were used at the auditorium host area as it's outdoor, had weak reflection signals and directional antennas that delivered maximum transmission efficiency. But at the backstage host area, we directly used 2 horn antennas as the omnidirectional antennas could make full use of the reflection signals in the small indoor space.
It's difficult to set up the antenna system as the main stage structure was complex and and there was a big lifting screen. After discussions and tests, we used four UA874 directional antennas to solve the problem of reception antennas coverage, of which two were placed at the central area pointing to the front of the T stage to ensure the intensity of the signals from the central area and the extended T stage and the other two were placed to cover the two stage areas on the right and left with two lifting screens.
With this solution, minimum antennas were used to cover the most individual areas. The problem would be one antenna with strong signals and the other with weak ones for two stages per side. But with Axient Digital wireless system, channel signal quality could be seen any time on channel quality meters to minimize the potential risks.
In terms of monitoring headphones, 8 channel PSM1000 was used as two systems. As the host had to hear the CUE signals from the general director while waiting backstage or at the auditorium, the host monitoring headphone system was separated and a PA805 was used to cover the backstage and auditorium. Other channels were combined to launch with a HA8089. With powerful true diversity bodypack of PSM1000, monitoring headphone signals full coverage can be perfectly achieved.
Frequency planning was the highlight of this event. It's particularly important to select the appropriate frequency points as the on-site wireless devices were both numerous and complicated. With WWB, we found that the down channel of the intercom system worked from 600-650 MHz. As the systems had high powers and were numerous, we selected frequency points that were mainly above 700 MHz, to prevent the influence of the system, avoid its frequency points and digital TV and have a more stable environment. In addition, a lot of backup frequency points were found in the computing frequency points, monitored by the AXT600 Spectrum Manager in real time, to ensure every backup frequency point was safe and reliable.

The wireless technical support for this event was successfully delivered. With perfection in mind, our team has finally surmounted all the difficulties to ensure its smooth delivery. Hereby, we would like to extend our gratitude to our engineers Shi Zhuohao, Li Yuheng and Yu Junhao for their hard work. We will continue to provide better services for the industry and contribute to its development with the vision of combing professionalism with perfection to lead the industry.
