Kunming, a Southwest China city, now has its first Theater of 4K 9P RGB IMAX with Laser - China Film Stellar Nanmu Movie Theater, which is located in the Kunming City Cultural Palace, Renmin East Road, Panlong District, Kunming City. With a total investment of over 25 million yuan, the theater has 8 movie halls, including a 231-seat Dolby Atmos Hall and seven other all-digital halls with a total of more than 1,100 seats. With its comfortable environment and first-class audio-visual design, the five-star standard compliant theater welcomed waves of people shortly after its opening.
The most advanced cinema technologies and equipment imported from top brands were used for the theater and ACE provided equipment and technical supports.
Movie halls are provided with projection equipment of the type determined according to their sizes. The 16-meter Dolby Atmos hall employs the most advanced CHRISTIE CP42LH 4K 9P RGB laser digital projector, and the other 7 digital halls all use the CHRISTIE CP2215 digital projectors. All the servers are the DOLBY IMB-4K-C-2K4-2TB digital cinema servers. This design makes the projection of 4K 60-frame movies easy. In 3D projection, the center brightness is as high as 7FL, which is much higher than the industry standard of 4.5FL.
The biggest draw is the use of the CHRISTIE CP42LH 4K 9P RGB laser digital projector in the hall, which, in conjunction with the Christie Freedom® laser illumination system, delivers color saturation beyond the DCI P3 and replicates the Rec 2020 color gamut. It consists of rack-mounted laser modules, each of which delivers up to 5,000 lumens of white light. It is scalable, allowing users to easily add, remove, enable or disable the laser modules based on brightness requirements and up to 12 modules may be used. The total brightness of each rack may be up to 60,000 lumens. Each laser module is independently cooled and is provided with built-in fault protection for greater efficiency and reliability. Christie 9P RGB laser technology is used to better reduce speckle and thus there is no need to vibrate the screen.
The hall uses a Dolby ATMOS playback system. The equipment used includes one Dolby CP850 Dolby ATMOS digital audio frequency processor, four BSS BLU-BOB2 sound channel splitters, five JBL4732 main speakers and three JBL4642A front low-frequency speakers. The ambient sound speakers used are JBL8450 series (12 at the top, left and right, respectively and 6 at the back). There are two JBL4645C rear low-frequency speakers, five CROWN DSi4000 primary power amplifiers, one CROWN DSi6000 front secondary power amplifier, one CROWN DSi2000 front secondary power amplifier and one CROWN DSi4000 rear secondary power amplifier. The surrounding power amplifiers used include thirteen CROWN DSi2000 series and 2 CROWN DSi4000 series.
Other studio sound playback system includes CP750 Dolby Digital Cinema audio processor, Crown DSi series amplifiers, XLC series amplifiers and JBL speakers to ensure best sound quality and reliability.
The movie theater has overwhelming advantages compared with other theaters in the city, whether in terms of the use of projectors or the playback system as this high-end design is usually only seen in the downtown area of the first-tier cities in China. In particular, the use of the Christie 4K-RGB laser projection system and the advanced Dolby Atmos sound reproduction system enables it to decode almost every digital movie format that ever seen in the market.
