The undescribable blue crystal, like a fairy land against the backdrop of the Gobi Desert, came to your sight on your way to the Dunhuang Mogao Caves. This is the “Aqua Blue Theater” specially designed for two years for the large-scale situational play Encore Dunhuang directed by Ms. Wang Chaoge. The designer took inspiration from water, a symbol of life, hope and aspirations in the dessert. Encore Dunhuang is an indoor interactive show staged on the way to Dunhuang and will sure be a new tourist attraction in Gansu Province.
Encore Dunhuang is one of the landmark events for the "Silk Road Economic Belt" to jointly promote the economic and cultural development of Gansu Province. The theater was designed by Gansu Siku Culture Investment (Group) Co., Ltd. and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. together with the director Wang Chaoge’s team.
ACE had the honor to provide sound reinforcement, video and lighting equipment for the “Encore” series and “Impression” series for many times. This event was no exception for we supplied all the audio, video and lighting equipment.
The quantities of work for the theater was 5 to 6 times that for a normal 1,000-seat theater as many new technologies used to produce special effects required repeated tests and adjustments in different phases. ACE set up a 40-member professional team of experienced experts and technicians and worked around the clock for equipment installation, system commissioning and technical supports and assisted the director team to complete this masterpiece within a tight schedule.
For sound reinforcement, we used Harman JBL speakers and Crown digital amplifiers, four Soundcraft Vi3000 digital mixers, more than twenty BSS digital processors, and twelve sets of Shure QLXD series wireless handheld and headset microphones. A large audio signal transmission management system consisting of ten fiber switches was set up.
For the lighting system, we used the MA2 control system and network system. More than 900 lights were used, including Clay Paky Scenius Profile 1400 moving lights, EPICA LED stage lights, Zhujiang moving lights and Yajiang LED lights.
For the video system, we again used the MA2 control system and network system and MA VPU video servers, Arkaos video servers, d3 video server, and more than 20 Barco projectors to meet the needs for multiple scenarios and diverse changes.
The four zones of the venue are divided by topic rather than by time period; yet each topic is inter-connected to form a complete historical panorama. The historical stories are told with the aids of the exquisite stage and pioneering special effects to provide the audience with spectacular experiences. Encore Dunhuang takes the audience to a time travel. In the 90-minute performance, you are traveling through the one-thousand-year cave for preserving Buddhist sutra, two-thousand-year Mogao Cave, and seven-hundred-year Silk Road. What flashes before your eyes are “shining spears and armored horses of the Tang Dynasty”, the “distinguished air of elegance and coquetry of Lady of Sung State”, the “miserable life of grass-roots people” and the tremendous studies on Dunhuang culture”.
