Opened in 2008, Sanlitun Mega Box has 8 movie halls with a total of 1,587 seats. With high-quality audiovisual equipment and an elegant viewing environment, it was used as a branch venue during the Beijing International Film Festival, and was often chosen as the theater for film premiere and a meeting place for actors and audiences.
The original lighting was too dim. There were effect lights, but the projection angles were limited due to incorrect installation angles. The hall was in need of lights to create performance atmosphere in order to produce better effects for film music and commercial activities.
In lamp position design, considering the fact that the performance area coincides with the pedestrian circulations, atmosphere creating lights were needed for holding events and for day-to-day business operations and the theater LOGO (dynamic) and QR code pattern (static) needed to be projected. The hall also required proper lighting in terms of the dimmer, position, color, and gobo for display of models and posters.
In light selection, we needed small lights to facilitate concealed installation with LED lights source to avoid future replacement and long-life and high-reliability qualities. Based on repeated discussions and calculations, we finally used: 7x15W WASH LED PAR lights with light angle of 16° and a total of 16 lights were used; 230W SPOT LED moving lights with zoom 16~34° and a total of 8 lights were used. The total number of 24 lights were divided into 8 groups, each of which included 3 lights. They were mounted around the hall.

The hall improved its functions after the renovation. The new lighting system meets the needs for daily atmosphere creating and allows programming of lighting effects according to different commercial activities. The durable design allows them to meet long-hour use every day. In addition, they are easy to use and can be flexibly programmed.
