On October 11, 2015, “Love China, Eternal Classics • 2015 Shanghai North Bund Landscape Opera Week”, which was jointly launched by Shanghai Changyuan Culture Group, China Symphony Development Foundation and Center for China Shanghai International Arts Festival, was officially kicked off. The event with the first-line river view, first-class team, classic repertoire, “most beautiful” stage and modern audio technology ad the biggest draws, brought a new “holographic sound experience” to opera fans of the city.
It was staged at the waterfront of the North Bund with voguish settings designed by the renowned drama and opera director Marco Carniti, allowing audience to enjoy the performances facing the Pujiang River. The opera week included three performances, two lecture forums and a rehearsal for the public. The three performances were the Verdi's opera "La Traviata" on October 11, the "World Classic Opera Prelude Concert" on October 16 and the "Gala Concert-Extracts from Opera" on October 17.
A multimedia technology company was engaged to create a top level stage that best delivers the charm of the European classic opera music. The “four-dimensional holographic sound" technology for “holographic" positioning of the sound and line array speakers for sound feedback were creatively employed so that the sound of “point source” or “face (line) source” of any point in the area can be accurately positioned and precisely restored. This undoubtedly raised higher requirements for building the audio system.
MX Events and ACE jointly developed the audio system solution and provided services for audio system installation and commissioning and technical supports. Unlike the direct sound reinforcement in a traditional opera performance, we used the IOSONO 3D sound system supplied by Full Dimension as an agent to create a blending effect of a completely enclosed and moving classic concert. This complicated the system building.
A total of 307 JBL speakers were used. The main sound reinforcement at forestage consisted of 13 groups of JBL's latest VTX-V20 line array speakers (each group 3 speakers). In addition, we used 4 groups of JBL VTX-S25 subwoofers, each group 3 subwoofers, in a heart shaped design. All speakers were powered by Crown's top-of-the-line ITHD series amplifiers. To make every seat a “VIP position”, 240 JBL EON615 speakers were amazingly arranged above the auditorium.
In the stage, sixteen JBL VTX-F15 speakers were used for sound feedback, allowing every artist to clearly feel their performance. We used a classical Soundcraft Vi6 digital mixer as the feedback mixer and a Vi5000 digital mixer which was the latest release of the Soundcraft Vi series as the main sound reinforcement mixer. It was worth mentioning that the Vi5000 was also the debut of it in China. The Vi5000 has 128 channels and 32 stereo buses. It has a maximum I/O of 384/384 and the audio processing 96Khz.
The system received high praise from leaders of various levels, many famous Chinese composers and representatives from major opera houses, art groups and music institutions in China and abroad. ACE is very honored to be part of the success!
