The Chenshan Grassland Radio Concert has already been successfully held for three times and is warmly welcome by citizens for its urban cultural life concepts of “flowers, music, and enjoyment of life”. On May 16 and 17 this year, the concert was upgraded to the “Chenshan Grassland Broadcasting Music Festival” and was specially presented via Classic 947 (FM94.7). It presented 6 different styles of performances on the big and small stages for 2 consecutive days and attracted nearly 10,000 people. It has now become the largest outdoor classical music festival in China.

The Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Opera House Choir were invited to give a performance on May 16, led by Zhang Chengjie, a famous conductor who once lived in Germany and now a resident conductor of Shanghai Opera House. For the performance on May 17, Mischa Maisky, a well-known cello player, and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra led by Jonathan Nott, a world top conductor, were invited. The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic are known as the “Best two national symphony orchestras in Germany". At the festival, the top German orchestra, known for its warmth and rich tone, performed masterpieces of music masters such as Beethoven, Dvorak and Brahms for the Chinese audience.

The sound reinforcement system for the main stage was provided, commissioned and produced by the audio department of Technology Operation Center of Shanghai Media Group. The main loudspeaker system was composed of twenty four JBL VTX-V25 line array loudspeakers, ten JBL VT4889 for side sound fill, and four JBL VT4888DPs for forestage sound fill. The subwoofer system consisted of twelve VTX S28 series subwoofers. All amplifiers for the sound reinforcement system were from the Crown ITHD series. The PA console and live broadcast console were made up of Soundcraft Vi6 and Vi4. A Shure AXT system with a total of 10 channels was also used.

The large open space required an outdoor sound reinforcement system that may give full play to the characteristics of every string music, percussion music and wind music. This is not easy. However, use of the JBL VTX system made the work easy as it has the ability to clearly and accurately express every note that required.
