On the evening of April 16, 2015, the opening ceremony of the 5th Beijing International Film Festival was held at the Yanqi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Beijing. The theme of the ceremony was “Light and Shadow Praise” which perfectly matched the main design concept of the venue “Han & Tang Sublimation, Heaven & Earth Flying”. It is majestic and magnificent, just like the reflection of the Temple of Heaven. The stage art will take advantage of the situation to capture the scene, using a closed-loop flow of performance structure to present a complete performance space, interspersed with the possibility of numerous image spaces, such as abstract forests, oceans, sky, crowds, tall buildings, even eyes, bottom of the heart, as well as through the diversified concepts to enhance the impact of vision, through multi-layer projection and large screen interaction to create a stunning effect of naked eye 3D.
In order to better express the effect of the performance, the active sound reinforcement system of the opening and closing ceremonies and awards ceremony all use JBL speakers. The equipment is provided by Yongsheng International Culture Media Co., Ltd.. As an equipment supplier, ACE provides full technical support and services. The famous sound engineer Ma Xin was in charge of the mixing during the whole process and was very satisfied with the music effect.
At the party, six JBL V20 full-range line array speakers were suspended on each side as the main PA system, and three S25 subwoofers were placed on the ground. After the system tuning, the design software shows that the high frequencies of the six speakers cannot cover the audience in the back area, while the middle and low frequencies are completely covered. Mr. Ma said it is the thing they intend to do. The first is to consider the beauty of the stage scene, and it must ensure that the speaker is perfectly integrated with the scene, and then according to the height of the hanging point, the speaker group cannot be made too long. Last but not the least, efforts should be made to minimize the impact of the two main PA speakers to the stage.
Because it is a live program, if the main PA system is too loud, it will affect the microphone on the stage. Therefore, the number of main PA speakers is deliberately reduced, and the high frequency of the audience in the back area is lacking. Therefore, four sets of Delay speakers are used above the back area to mainly compensate for the definition. The four sets of Delay speakers are suspended horizontally along the top, and each group is two JBL F12. It is worth mentioning that the F12 has good compatibility with the V20 both in the sense of hearing and in the frequency response. This is well verified at the APEC Water Cube Banquet.
JBL VTX V20 full-range speakers and S25 subs were used in this system. Before suspended, the JBL’s LAC II was used for simulation calculation. After installation, you can easily install and tuning the system by using JBL and Crown's control software Performance Manager. It is particularly worth mentioning that the JBL V20 provides very good directivity control for the field, and the frequency response curves measured on the two axes are almost completely congruent.
